EARTH BEER 30, EB30 NATION #1 Feb 2008.

You may be wondering...what the hell is this all about?

This is a site dedicated to promoting Comic Book related charities, supported by comic creators and their fans...with a little fun tossed in...specifically, Beer and conventions. So...open a cold one...soda if you're under-age ...and join the fun. Let's go back a bit to the DC Message Boards...

"Welcome one and all to the expansion franchise of EB:30's famous Fledermouse Lounge on the Outskirts of the 4th wall, some where outside the Bleed, and conspicuously close to Space B. We serve drinks inspired by the heroes of the Intoxiverse, and share yarns of the great heroes Stooperman, Labattman, and Pabst Blue Robin, and Alcho-man "the Stooper Friends" So come grab a drink, and enjoy. you never know who will show up here..."

And so it began...

Well, at least in it's most recent incarnation.
The thread started out, if I remember correctly, back during "Identity Crisis". It's "Identity" has changed as DC's ground breaking series moved on to "Infinite Crisis", "52", and "Countdown". The origin of the name, why the thread was started, and so many other questions, are best left to the fool who started it all...alexziq (screen names will be used to protect the innocent...why?...not sure...not much innocence around here...)
This month's interview is with...

alexziq.

EB30: Welcome Alex! Where did the idea of "Earth Beer:30" come from?

Alex: Actually during Infinite Crisis a popular thread was the Earth 420 thread, where Munkeypunk, and a few other old schoolers used to make up, and post goofey stoner Superheroes, and stories. One day on the Earth 420 thread I joked that much like the old JSA/JLA days that Earth 420's sister planet was Earth Beer:30.

Later the following year the Earth 420 thread started back on the 52 boards. One Friday Rick, and I were on the Bored joking about the Blue Blunt, and Alcupulco Booster Gold. The work day was really dragging, and I was really craving a brew around 4pm. I decided to see if Earth Beer:30 could hold its own thread.

For a few weeks both threads stayed open, but before very long EB:30 had eclipsed the popularity of the E 420 thread. In those days we more or less made up Labattman, Pabst Blue Robin, the Green Lagers, and of course the Flush. After our creativity dried up around the time of American Idol last year, we started inventing drinks, and eventually the EB:30 became a hang out for DC fans to get to know each other, and just have fun in a non-serious manner.

EB30: Are you disappointed DC didn't include EB30 in their multiverse?

Alex: DC can ignore Earth Beer:30, but like the continuity of the last 30 years it exists none the less, of course the Megaverse is still to come so I wont assume they dont believe in the power of EB:30.

EB30: Who's your favorite EB30 Stooperhero?

Alex: Blue Ribbon Beetle, and the Flush Beery Allen. My heart goes out for those zeroes who OD'd to save the universe. Of course in the Intoxiverse theres always the hope for Time Travel, and an emergency stomach pump. Time travel is possible on EB:30. I know Ive blacked out and traveled 1-2 days into the future in the course of my adventures over the years.

EB30: Why do you enjoy visiting the thread so much?

Alex: Because it represents a new generation of Ubergeeks. I know I was kind of a closet geek in the late 80's, and early 90's. I remember seeing Clerks in the Theater back in 94, and thinking "here we go". These are the kind of guys I know, and party with, not the shut in, stereo type of a typical Star Trek nerd like Gilbert in Revenge of the Nerds.

I started hanging out in Kent, Ohio at a kind of Gothey, Punk Comic store called Watch the Skys that was owned by an Artist at Dark Horse who happened to be dating Jill Thompson at Vertigo. It was very cutting edge for the time, and kinda made me embrace Geek Pride. Earth Beer:30 reminds me of the days I would go out, and see that crowd of people at the Bar, and feel like the 2 worlds I lived in kind of intertwined.

EB30: What's your favorite EB30 beverage?

Alex: Grant Morrison loves a good Rocket Red Bull, and General Zodka, so thats kinda my drink of choice, but I drink a LOT of Miche-Lobo.

EB30: Now that your thread idea has blossomed into a web-site dedicated to promoting comic conventions and industry related charities...What do you think?

Alex: I couldnt be happier, I really would like to see it mentioned in Wizard, or host a couple parties at some of the major conventions, get a shout out in DC Nation maybe?

EB30: Wanna buy a T-shirt? Come on, you can afford it. Living in Mom's basement can't cost that much...

Alex: I actually have one I made to wear out to the bars. Just plain black with white lettering. Im a fool for black and white colors. I think its all the Burton movies I got drunk and watched over the years.

EB30: Thanks Alex!

In retrospect... the days I remember before what Alex recollects may well be "The Club That Shall Not Be Named"... if so...a story for another day.

And, on that sobering note (I HATE typing "sober"), on behalf of Rick and myself...

WELCOME TO EB30!
Cheers!
