CREATOR INTERVIEWS - SCOTT HANNA
So presenting For the First Time anywhere -
jokergas' Legends in their own Time #1 - Scott Hanna, May, 2008

Interviewer - jokergas

Today is May 3rd, 2008 and its Free Comic Book day. I stopped by Beachead Comics in Allentown, PA and I got a chance to meet with Scott Hanna. Scott Hanna is presently an artist/inker for Marvel Comics. He has worked on Iron Man, Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, Hulk, Thor, New Exiles, Nova and many more.

The funniest part of the day was the #1 question asked of him at least five times while I was there and according to him is asked at all the Conventions ( glad I wasn't the one who asked him this ):

jokergas: Are you any relation to William Hanna of Hanna-Barbera?

Scott Hanna: ( Laughs ) While we are both of Irish descent unfortunately that is about as far as it goes.

jokergas: What are you currently working on?

Scott Hanna: Currently I'm working on an Inhumans miniseries that is tied in to Secret Invasion. I will also be Inking the Fantastic Four crossover with Secret Invasion and I am currently the inker on the Nova ongoing.

jokergas: Can you share any secrets with us about Secret Invasion?

Scott Hanna: ( Laughs ) I'm sorry but I'm not at liberty to say at this time. But I will say that I seem to be doing a lot more work on people who are Skrulls than I thought I would be.

jokergas: Who is your Favorite artist/writer to work with?

Scott Hanna: I really don't have a favorite...I've worked with a lot of artists like Alan Kistler John Romita Jr. and Bryan Hitch to name some and have really enjoyed working with all of them. The same goes with writers. I have been privileged to work with Chris Claremont, Roy Thomas, and Stan Lee. These are guys that I grew up with and now they know my name and like my work. That is really a big honor. I've also worked with Grant Morrison ( early on in his career ) and Brian Michael Bendis and they were great.

jokergas: Did you ever work with Jack "The King" Kirby?

Scott Hanna: Sort of. I was working with Marvel Comics Licensing and I had to re-ink some of Jacks work. That's the closest I got.

jokergas: Is there anyone you would like to work with?

Scott Hanna: I would like to work again with Grant Morrison. I would like to work with Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Scriver.

jokergas: Are you under Marvel Exclusive?

Scott Hanna: Yes, but that expires in a couple of months. After that, we will have to wait and see.

jokergas: What did you enjoy reading as a kid?

Scott Hanna: I used to enjoy reading comics of course, but I also really like the stories about King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table. Just recently I did work with Roy Thomas on the Black Knight for the Mystic Arcana series. It was the best memories from of my childhood.

jokergas: Did you see the movie IRON MAN yet?

Scott Hanna: Yes! It was fantastic. I saw it twice so far. The best superhero movie of all the time. You would think that with a hero like Iron Man it would be more about the armor but the director, Jon Favreau, has given us a real character piece.

jokergas: If Iron Man was the first, What is the second?

Scott Hanna: Hellboy.

jokergas: Any chance you can come by and have a drink by The Eb-30?

Scott Hanna: Much as I would like to I work, maybe 10 to 14 hours a day. I purposely still have a dial up connection because its so slow that it wont distract me from my work. But it sounds great.

Much of Scott Hanna's work is available for sale at www.theartistchoice.com. While I was there I did ask if I could have a sketch. He had one he penciled himself in NY yesterday. During my interview he inked and autographed it for me. I have donated it to the EB-30 and it will be auctioned off and some of the proceeds given to charity. I asked if the Jokergas Foundation could be considered. They said NO.

A special thanks goes out to Jeff over at Beachhead Comics. 1601 Chew Street in Allentown, PA. This was his show and he wanted to give us his support.
